Petition Signature Thresholds
Under Idaho Code § 31-717, a county initiative or referendum petition requires signatures equal to 20% of the qualified electors who voted in the county's last general election to compel a binding vote. Our platform's signature goals apply a +3% excess buffer to account for signature invalidation and to prefer more signatures than the legal minimum.
Formula: Threshold = 20% × (ballots cast in last general election)
| County | 2024 Turnout | 20% Legal Minimum | +3% Buffer | Platform Goal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ada | 271,128 | 54,226 | 55,853 | 56,000 |
| Canyon | 102,383 | 20,477 | 21,091 | 21,500 |
| Elmore | 10,672 | 2,134 | 2,198 | 2,200 |
| Owyhee | 4,950 | 990 | 1,020 | 1,100 |
