Demand a Moratorium on New Data Center Permits in Ada County
Ada County has approved over 2 GW of data center capacity without a comprehensive water and energy impact study. We demand a temporary moratorium on new permits until a full environmental and grid-capacity review is completed.

Ada County is ground zero for Idaho's data center boom. In the past three years, the county has approved permits for facilities consuming more electricity than every home in Boise combined — without requiring a single cumulative impact study on the Snake River aquifer or the regional power grid.
We, the undersigned, demand that the Ada County Board of Commissioners enact an immediate temporary moratorium on all new data center building permits, lasting no less than 12 months, during which time the county must commission an independent, peer-reviewed study of:
1. Cumulative water draw from the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer
2. Grid capacity and transmission constraints under peak summer load
3. Property tax abatement losses and their impact on school district funding
4. Noise, light, and diesel-generator emissions on neighboring residential parcels
No new permits should be considered until this study is published and a public hearing is held on its findings.
